Lesley Garrett – Mother Abbess
Lesley Garrett CBE is Britain’s most popular soprano, regularly appearing both in opera and in concert, on television and CD. As a recording artist she has released fourteen solo albums. Her major television appearances include Lesley Garrett…Tonight, Jobs for the Girls,Viva la Diva and The Lily Savage Show. She was also the subject of a South Bank Show and her music programmes for the BBC were The Singer, Sacred Songs and Lesley Garrett – Desert Dreams.
Lesley Garrett’s operatic career included engagements at the Wexford Festival, Welsh National Opera, Opera North, Buxton Festival Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, the Royal Opera and English National Opera. International operatic appearances include Paris, Florence, the Bolshoi, Kiev, São Paolo and three seasons with Geneva Opera. Most recently she returned to Opera North to sing the role of Elle in Poulenc’s La Voix Humaine. In new West End productions she originated the role of Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music at the London Palladium and the role of Nettie in Carousel. In concert she continues to appear with the Hallé, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, BBC Concert and RTÉ Orchestras. In addition she has been a regular guest artist for the BBC Last Night of the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall and Hyde Park, Belfast and Dundee.
Lesley was awarded a CBE in the 2002 NewYear’s Honors List for Services to Music and is a member of the board of the Royal Academy of Music where she was awarded the FRAM.

Theatre includes: Two major productions of Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. In 1995 he toured with several high-profile children’s shows for Brian Charteris, and then for Gordon Bilbrough’s AREPP Theatre for Life. It was around this time that he became involved with improvisation theatre, playing alongside Odile Rault, Al Prodgers and Robert Fridjhon. As well as theatre, Mark also exercised his songwriting with the band Ten Athlone (which he fronted), and sang with another band, Double Vision.
In 1996 he moved back to the UK to pursue other ventures. During his 14-year stay there, he worked on many campaigns with Comment UK, a leading corporate advertising company, and fronted another band, Orange Crush. He also toured with the long-established West Midland Children’s Theatre.
In 2010, Mark moved to Cape Town permanently, and began acting in TV, commercials, and his first love: theatre.
