Monday night saw the new Sound of Music cast take to the stage in Woking. In Neil White's latest blog, written just before Monday night's show, the cast welcome the new additions - and say a fond farewell to some old friends. Hi, It’s between shows on Saturday as I write this and it has been a really long week!! We finished in Eastbourne last Saturday night and whilst our crew were building the show in Woking, the company travelled to London ready for rehearsals on Monday. It was really quite strange being back in our original rehearsal space on Monday afternoon with the new touring company. All the 2010/11 company were there for a run of the show with the new children and Arlene was there with her notepad ready to cast her expert eye over the proceedings. Am glad to say the run went really well. Tuesday was our normal opening day in Woking with sound checks, dress rehearsal and opening performance, the new company were rehearsing in London perfecting everything before stage rehearsals later in the week. It also was quite a special opening in Woking as the very lovely Kirsty Malpass was playing Maria while The Fisher has some days off. After a matinee on Wednesday, Thursday was a day of full technical rehearsals. As I arrived at the theatre at 8.30am our touring staff were all waiting to get in the building to get ready for a 10.00am start (think it was quite a shock for some of them to discover there are two 8.30s in a day). The day flew by as we rehearsed each scene and all the costume changes for the children and our new alternate Maria, Philippa. Am glad to say that we managed to get through the whole show in a day which avoided the scary sight of our crew being in the building before 9 on the Friday morning. Connie arrived back to the show last night. The audiences so far in Woking have been really fantastic and the show really looks amazing in the theatre – you would think the set had been built for the show to play permanently here… And then today… The company all arrived in quite a quiet mood today – it really sounds a cliché but we really have been like a big touring family this year and it is really sad that 15 of our adult cast family are leaving not to mention 18 of our truly wonderful children, and the lovely touring technical staff who have also Tonight will be a very emotional show before the mammoth weekend our wardrobe department have getting the costumes ready for the new company’s dress rehearsal on Monday. To all those who are leaving us – thank you so much – we have had an amazing year!
